Online Exhibition: 2pm Thurs 4 – 8pm Sun 7 November

Live Exhibition: 5 - 7 November

Jhana Millers Gallery presents THERE IS AN ARTWORK IN ALL OF THIS. a new exhibition by Elisabeth Pointon at Jhana Millers Gallery and at the Yu Mei Lounge in Wellington, as part of TENT. Yu Mei will also launch their first shoppable artist collaboration, featuring a limited edition bag designed with Elisabeth Pointon. This exhibition was originally planned for the Yu Mei Lounge in Newmarket, Tāmaki Makaurau, but travel restrictions mean that it has been moved.

Artist Elisabeth Pointon is finally free of her antagonist-muse – her day job at a luxury car dealership, where she’s worked since her final years of university. THERE IS AN ARTWORK IN ALL OF THIS. is a new series of work created as Pointon shakes off the tensions of the workplace and seeks a return to a state of beauty – to a whole and harmonious self.

THERE IS AN ARTWORK IN ALL OF THIS. Features new video, installation, and signage works. At first glance, Pointon’s contribution to the refined surrounds of the Yu Mei Lounge may seem like nothing but fun – after all, there’s a large ball pit in the centre of the space – but the exhibition bears her signature balance of humour and absolute sincerity.

The exhibition continues Pointon’s series of text artworks, but turns away from the lexicon of the office. Instead, this body of work is crafted from personal endings and beginnings. Its title responds to a question Pointon’s father, Richard, asked her throughout her life – and right until the end of his – “do you think there might be an artwork in all of this?” As a kind of answer, this exhibition honours Pointon’s relationship with her father, and their kindred belief in art’s ability to keep us afloat through life’s realities and challenges.
