Celebrate the colourful world of Iain Cheesman in this standout major solo show at The Vivian. Iain’s work is well-loved and can be found in many local and international collections.

The exhibition showcases a broad-ranging body of new work Iain has been developing in his Waiuku studio over the past year, and is also a timely platform for the launch of Iain’s third book of poetry, of the same name.

While there are still instantly-recognisable, and familiar, signature elements of his work in this new exhibition, visitors will be in for some surprises. Iain has always been fascinated by the interface between words and images, and this show explores the reduction of language – where a conversation can become a short poem, a statement, or a sign. Iain says it’s really all about speech, how far it’s come, and how far we can prune it.

In addition to a range of felt wall works, Iain is showing his new “shelf” pieces which have been painstakingly crafted over the past few months – as well as a new large-scale steel sculpture.

Opens 4pm Saturday 20th October. All welcome! (get in touch to ask about the FREE bus we're running from Auckland on the day!)
