Ngātahi Chance Encounters at Auckland Art Fair

Ngātahi, at the 2021 Art Fair, welcomes you into an unfolding framework of collective ingenuity that foregrounds books as a source of artistic inspiration.

Working with leading Aotearoa New Zealand based artist Judy Millar, we are proud to introduce the Judy Millar book collection on the Ngātahi stand, featuring books suggested by artists and creatives from around the globe. Rendered as a space of critical dialogue and collaboration, the booth reflects the influences that fuel creativity and celebrates these moments of chance encounters with others whose ideas may ultimately shape our own.

Alongside this presentation, curators from Ngātahi organisations will be running a series of public tours of the Fair each with a guest artist to be revealed on the day.

Tours will take place at the following times, in exchange for $5 koha for Ngātahi. Bookings for tours are available when you purchase a ticket to Auckland Art Fair online.

Thursday 25 Feb 2pm

Friday 26 Feb 2pm

Saturday 27 Feb 11am and 2pm

Sunday 28 Feb 11am

Visitors to the booth are welcome to browse the Judy Millar book collection for reading, purchase and enjoyment, and share a chat with a curator over a board game and a coffee. This space has been designed by Sajeev Ruthra to allow for scheduled and unscheduled group activities and discussions to take place. Maybe you’ll meet a person, or a book, or a book recommended by a person, by chance. All welcome.

Ngātahi is a collaboration of Auckland arts organisations Artspace Aotearoa, Gus Fisher Gallery, Objectspace, ST PAUL St Gallery, Te Tuhi and Te Uru.
