Described by the Ambassador of Mexico to New Zealand as the pre-eminent Mexican artist working today, Pedro Trueba is a painter and sculptor whose works have been shown in eight successful New York exhibitions as well as in Paris, Geneva, Oviedo, Barcelona, Ottawa, Montreal, New Delhi, Tel Aviv and Amman.

And now in Wellington. He has created a stunning exhibition of thirty large canvases that mix recollections of his own homeland with vibrant observations of Wellington’s harbour and cityscape. This is possibly the only chance that most New Zealanders will have to see or to buy works by this prestigious and internationally collected artist.

The exhibition has been brought to Wellington by the Embassy of Mexico to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between New Zealand and Mexico. The opening marked the celebration in Wellington of their National Day and 213th anniversary of the declaration of independence by Mexico.

Academy Galleries thank Gordon Harris Ltd for generous support in providing paints and canvases for the creation of this exhibition.
