‘It is now over a decade since I departed for Rangitahua/Raoul Island on the HMNZS Otago. That was during the early days of the Kermadec art project. These works register the extent to which a part of me still resides at that remote outpost.
The paintings, drawings and etchings reflect lessons learnt on the island and at sea, and how it is that such an unexpected encounter - an eruption in time and space - can permeate one’s being and remain as a kind of dynamic, a stirring up, a call to various kinds of action…’
