Bowen Galleries is delighted to present Nicholas Burry’s latest exhibition, Things That Jump/ Bounce.

Things That Jump/Bounce is a meditation on form. It originates from the sense of shock; the acknowledgement of one's distinctness and dividedness from all other objects. Being surrounded by so much disappearance and transformation, we question the restrictions of form and the cosmic destiny of our bodies.

Nicholas Burry (b. 1997, Ōtautahi Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand) is a painter of the human form living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Burry has developed an independent studio practice drawing on the tradition of oil painting; the works have a solemn earthy feel, shot through with a seam of spontaneous play; at times tersely ironic, often highly sentimental. His focus is on the emotional experience of being here, and the struggle of co-existence—being an object amongst objects.
