This is a group exhibition of four very large paintings by four artists, their inclusion founded on their physicality. All are immune to the stylistic preoccupations of the present moment, but inseparable from the continuing relevance of painting as a contemporary art form. The gallery space, being of very generous proportions, has enabled us to tailor an exhibition that makes a virtue out of the contraints presented to artists wishing to make work on a grand scale, each occupying an entire wall space. The range and quality of responses to this exhibition may be as manifold and variable as the artists infinitely different approach to painting. In each artwork the position, disposition and situation are different. No decipherable narrative is offered however the viewer is encouraged to stand in the literal space that every single painting defines and engage with each independently and all collectively.
