Weasel Gallery is pleased to present Tyne Gordon’s solo exhibition, YORE; a presentation of predominantly wall-based works along with several spatial installation/sculptural aspects.

Comfortable within transitory phases and amongst flux, Gordon operates masterfully within the (for lack of a better term) ‘grey area’. Rich, textural, hand crafted frames of glass, gold, resin and salt hold impastoed foregrounds of tar-like blacks whilst slippages of lurid colour fight across the background. Of portable proportions, Gordon’s dynamic vistas speak of materiality, change, alchemy, and the sublime.

Based in Christchurch, Gordon completed her BFA with first class honours through the University of Canterbury (2011-2015). In 2016, Tyne was the recipient of the Ethel Susan Jones Fine Arts Travelling Scholarship which saw her travel to Iceland to carry out research for her practice. In 2018, Tyne received the Oliver Spencer Bower Award, allowing her one year of full time devotion to her practice. Recent exhibitions include Visitor at Toi Moroki Centre of Contemporary Art in Christchurch (2019), Double Dribble (1 and 2) at SoFA Ilam School of Fine Arts, followed by The National (both Christchurch, 2019), and a group exhibition at Jhana Millers Gallery earlier this year (2020).

Gordon’s works feature in the collection of the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu and in the collection of the University of Canterbury.
