小さな命が囁いている(whispers) explores the delicacies of the smaller moments we may miss in our day to day lives. Take a moment of respite and indulge in the art of seeing, long forgotten from our childhood.
By quietly approaching the gallery space, artist Kiki Hall works to reignite the viewers sense of wonder in her first solo show. A cluster of moss wedged between the cracks in the pavement, nasturtium scrambling on banks and ants scurrying the floors. This body of work responds to her frequent walks around her neighbourhood in East Tāmaki. Hall recreates these living beings by gathering common flora, utilising materials such as glass and ceramics to heighten the significance of these fleeting moments.
Artist Biography
Kiki Hall is a Japanese-New Zealand multidisciplinary artist interested in highlighting the intricacies of often overlooked moments. Her practice draws upon observations from her daily surroundings as she works with painting, ceramics, and glass. Focusing on natural occurrences and the details of our world, Kiki interlinks her cultural background with her fascination for the complexity and beauty of nature.
Kiki has exhibited and curated work in Not Under My Roof! At George Fraser Gallery (2019), Yes, and at The Tuesday Club (2021), Soft Sea Salt at Easel Gallery (2023), Over & Over & Over (again) at Morrinsville Gallery (2022), Luff (2023) and Buttercup and Lavender at The Arts House Trust (2024). She has graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland.
