The Forrester Gallery is a historical and contemporary public art gallery located in Ōamaru on the whenua of Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe and Waitaha. The gallery resides amongst bold multi-storied Corinthian columns and iconic Ōamaru stone in a 19th century neoclassical bank building. Converted into an art gallery in 1983 from its previous use as the Bank of New South Wales, the gallery is excited to foresee an ongoing project to extend the gallery’s existing heritage infrastructure and increase visitor accessibility.
The Forrester Gallery houses an extensive art collection including works of national significance that reflect the wairua of the Waitaki rohe and wider Te Wai Pounamu motu. The gallery offers a variety of historical collection and contemporary rotating exhibitions by local, national, and international artists.
