At the Aotearoa Art Fair 2025, Jhana Millers presents Petite Spa, a solo presentation by Te Whanganui-a-Tara artist Emily Hartley-Skudder, declaring their booth a bathroom showroom. There’s a shift towards the surreal within Emily's new suite of meticulous oil paintings: bathtubs fly and pool inflatables hover. Known for her exploration of the bathroom as a site of everyday ritual and escapism, the artist has now come full circle – her chosen still life subjects shrinking back to a diminutive scale. Emily arranges mini-worlds in her studio to construct humorous, off-kilter images which correspond to the installations they sit within. Step into this pastel diorama and perhaps leave with a sugary, retro taste in your mouth.
