Chez Derriere is launching a free art writing programme which will run from the end of November 2022 to April 2023. The programme will be facilitated by Felixe Laing, Te Tuhi’s curatorial intern, who is developing the Chez Derriere programme.

This five-month professional development programme is aimed at anyone who wants to be in a supportive environment to develop their writing. It'll be a space to try out writing exercises in sessions led by different voices from the field, as well as develop peer feedback skills. We'll be focusing on practical tools and approaches for writing in different contexts such as exhibitions, essays etc.

The programme will hold its first two hour workshop with curator and art historian Vera Mey at Chez Derriere at Parnell Station in November 2022, where participants will meet and be introduced to some tips and tricks on writing for exhibitions in different formats. This will be followed by a two day writers retreat in January 2023 in Leigh with guest writer Gabi Lardies, who will run some generative and fun exercises. From February to May 2023 bi-monthly workshops with several external workshop facilitators will be held at Chez Derriere.

-Ideal applicants will have some experience of writing in the arts but want to develop their practice and build a practical writing toolkit.

-The strength of this programme will be in the group moving forward in sessions together, so ideally you can commit to the five month programme of 8 sessions.

-The programme is free of charge and for the retreat weekend we will provide food, accommodation and transport.
