Artspace Aotearoa seeks to fill the position of Assistant Curator 2020/2021. This is an exciting one-year professional development opportunity for an ambitious, focused emerging curator to gain hands-on experience with a leading contemporary art organisation.
The role:
The Assistant Curator is a one-year professional development role in which you will gain extensive work experience through your direct involvement in, and contribution to the production and execution of the Artspace Aotearoa programme.
As an Assistant Curator, you should be passionate about making a significant contribution to the future of contemporary art in Aotearoa New Zealand.
With the guidance of the Kaitohu Director (and Te Ara Tipu / the Artspace Aotearoa Strategic Plan) you will have the opportunity to engage with leading local and international organisations, artists, curators. While engaging in stimulating critical dialogue.
Artspace Aotearoa aims to actively contribute to the body of knowledge within the field of contemporary art. Each team member seeks to be active in this, by expanding their own personal awareness of current cultural and political discourse.

Past Assistant Curators have gone on into curatorial positions with other reputable art organisations. Others have become critics, writers, and successful freelancers with esteemed national and international institutions.
