Last night Auckland Art Fair made the decision to proceed with a live Art Fair at The Cloud from 24 – 28 February as planned, subject to Alert Level 1 being announced for Tuesday.

“Given the proximity to the event, we are very aware of how much work the artists have put in for this Fair, and the commitment of participating galleries, especially after the cancellation of the 2020 event. While we realise that there is still a risk that on Monday the Alert Level could remain at Level 2, meaning that the install for the galleries participating (and the Fair) could not happen, however, if Level 1 is announced on Monday and we hadn’t made the decision to go ahead, we would be devastated not to have taken the opportunity on behalf of the visual arts and events sectors.” says Stephanie Post and Hayley White, Auckland Art Fair co-directors.

The Fair will be an outstanding showcase of art by Aotearoa’s best galleries alongside galleries from Australia, The Cook Islands and China – and all the other attractions – the outdoor Sculpture Space, Len Lye’s 4m kinetic sculpture, Big Blade, Artist talks and panel discussions, an Art Bookshop, pop up bars and cafés and so much more.

In the event that Monday’s announcement is that Auckland is not moving to Level 1, the Fair will be postponed until April at which time further details will be announced.

“We do not take this risk lightly, not least because it has significant financial implications for North Port Events, but also for the artist and gallerists who rely on the Fair as a significant generator of funds and the wider events sector. We believe that there is an opportunity here we have to try to take it.” Gavin and Dona White, North Port Events (owners of Auckland Art Fair).

Tickets for the Art Fair are on sale now via artfair.co.nz – and we are looking forward to more than 10,000 people joining us in The Cloud next week, to celebrate the outstanding artists and galleries of our region.
