Entries are now open for the 2026 Brick Bay Folly competition!

This is a unique and career-shaping opportunity for emerging Aotearoa architects to not only design a built structure, but to construct it on-site with support and mentorship from some of New Zealand’s leading industry professionals.

The successful team will receive a grant, as well as in-kind sponsorship to the overall value of $30,000 towards realising the proposed project.

Since 2015, the Brick Bay Folly has challenged young architects to explore the boundaries between architecture and sculpture, resulting in bold, experimental structures that live within our sculpture trail for 2-4 years. The winning team gains real-world experience in everything from concept development and construction logistics to public engagement.

The completed Folly will be:
• Built by the winning team at Brick Bay (just north of Auckland)
• Mentored by expert architects and engineers
• Showcased to the public on our sculpture trail
• Documented and promoted across our channels to help launch emerging talent
