Te Tuhi is excited to announce that this year it will open an offsite studio complex in Parnell, Te Tuhi Studios at Cheshire St. The project was initiated by Stephanie Post and developed in partnership with Auckland Transport. Te Tuhi is grateful to Auckland Transport for making this opportunity possible.

Te Tuhi will have a 3-year lease on the Parnell Station Building, which is not currently required by Auckland Transport for operations, to use as a ‘meanwhile’ space for artists. The studios will contribute to a vibrant arts and cultural community in Auckland, combining principles of collaboration, experimentation and inclusiveness, and engaging with the wider arts sector and the general public through public programmes including open studios, exhibitions and events.

To kick off the project, Te Tuhi is inviting expressions of interest for studio spaces at Te Tuhi Studios at Cheshire St. This is an exciting opportunity for artists who support Te Tuhi’s values and ways of working.

Studios will be available from April/May 2019 for up to 8 artists in 4 shared spaces for tenancies of up to 3 years. Studios range in price from $75/week for 11m2 to $115/week for 17m2. In addition, there is a subsidised studio priced at $55/week for 17m2 for a Studio Coordinator.

Te Tuhi is looking for a mix of artists at different stages of their careers and with a variety of visual arts practices.

Studios are prioritised for visual artists who are:

Committed to critically engaged contemporary visual art practice.

Either have, or are seeking to build, a career as a professional artist.

Exhibiting or engaging in opportunities (exhibitions, projects, residencies) locally, nationally and/or internationally.

Committed to regular on-going use of their studio.

Committed to constructively participate in Te Tuhi’s artistic and education programmes.

The studio complex includes a test/gallery space, run by Te Tuhi, for exhibitions and public programmes. Te Tuhi may make open calls for proposals or invite individuals or organisations to make proposals for events or exhibitions in the space. Studio artists will be encouraged to participate in the public programmes and to submit proposals to Te Tuhi for events and exhibitions in the test/gallery space.

If you would like further information, or to arrange to view the studios, please contact exhibitions@tetuhi.org.nz.

Expressions of interest are due by 1 April 2019. For further information visit our website
