Te Tuhi, Auckland are delighted to announce an incredible opportunity for a New Zealand visual artist in partnership with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, UK, with the generous support of philanthropists Sigrid and Stephen Kirk.
For over 40 years, artist residencies and creation have been at the heart of Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP). Supported by philanthropists Sigrid and Stephen Kirk, and in partnership with Te Tuhi, YSP are offering an exceptional placement for an artist to stay on site at YSP for up to 4 weeks in autumn 2019. The successful artist is not required to make an object or exhibition, but they will receive curatorial and technical support if required. The Residency is keen to support artists who have not yet developed a mainstream career and for whom this is likely to be their first working visit to the UK.
The residency will comprise 3-4 weeks at YSP in September/October 2019 and include: hospitality and accommodation; access to metal and wood workshops, and basic studio space with a material budget of £500; curator critique feedback and up to half a day technical support; economy international airfare (up to the value £1500); internal UK travel expenses (up to £200) and artist stipend (£2000).
YSP is 2 hours by train from London King’s Cross and the importance of the capital city to any aspiring artist is understood. As part of the residency, its benefactors generously offer use of a guest suite at their home in central London for up to 10 days, alongside a networking opportunity at the completion of the residency with invited stakeholders, artists and representatives from arts organisations.
If this is of interest to you, please submit a PDF of no more than 5 pages (6MB max) including a short statement on your current practice with images of your work, and a simple outline of your plans if you were to be offered the residency. This proposal does not have to be definitive and can change during the course of the residency. Applications should be submitted to exhibitions@tetuhi.org.nz before 28 February 2019. Shortlisting and Skype interviews will take place in March 2019.
As a Registered Sponsor for Migrant Workers in the UK, YSP is required to follow a strict procedure to ensure correct visa paperwork is in place for all visiting artists. In advance of the residency, the recipient will need to apply for a Tier 5 Temporary Visa, with YSP as a sponsor.
