Artspace Aotearoa have partnered with F.O.L.A. [AKL] and Satellites who are administering the Asian Artist's Fund to present a performance art residency.
The residency will support an Asian experimental performance artist(s) or live artist(s) to experiment and develop work in The Kit as part of the curatorial Intern Jingcheng Zhao's programme Parallax: reiterating forms of gathering. The artist or collective will be invited to take part in one public-facing event as part of Parallax:. This can be as simple as an open rehearsal or a talk to the audience about their practice or research.
One artist or collective will receive a $10,000 stipend and four weeks of R&D space at The Kit at Artspace Aotearoa between Oct 2025 and Jan 2026 (noting that this does not have to be consecutive). They will also receive curatorial and dramaturgical support from both the Artspace Aotearoa and F.O.LA. [AKL] teams.
Applications will be assessed by a group of independent Asian arts practitioners working in performance art, as well as representatives from both Artspace Aotearoa and F.O.L.A. [AKL]. They will evaluate your application according to:
• Artistic ambition. We recognise this is a subjective assessment to some extent, but this part of the assessment relates to how compelling your proposal is and the strength of your samples.
• Artistic impact. This relates to how timely and crucial it is for you to do this residency at this stage in your career.
• Feasibility. This asks whether your proposed approach will enable you to meet the ambitions of your proposal.
Interested artists are encouraged to attend the in person and online information sessions:
• In-person Information Session: Tue 3 June — 6-7pm, register here

Applications open on 11 June and close on 16 July 2025.
