Taitara Mahi - Hastings Art Gallery Educator
Permanent full-time
Te Whare Toi o Heretaunga Hastings Art Gallery works with artists and our communities to grow creativity within Te Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay, and to explore the role of arts and culture in the world we live in. The Gallery, which opened in the 1970s, presents a lively programme of local, national, and international contemporary art.
The purpose of this position is in the development and delivery of a dynamic series of high-quality art education programmes. Reporting to Hastings Art Gallery’s Manager Audience and Learning, the Educator will foster connections with schools, community groups, kaiako and ākonga within the region. The Educator maintains and seeks to increase Gallery’s school visitation and participation in the ELC programme.
To be successful in this role you will have:
A degree qualification in fine arts, art history, education, museum studies or a related subject
Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to work in a public gallery environment.
In-depth knowledge of contemporary art and, in particular, Aotearoa New Zealand art and the work of New Zealand artists.
Knowledge of Te Whāriki the New Zealand Curriculum and/or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and other key policy documents and resources.
