He angitūtanga: The opportunity

This is a full-time permanent position, 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday). Due to the nature of the role, there may be some evening and weekend work required.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Librarian/Archivist at the E H McCormick Research Library at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki. This is the most significant art library in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Librarian/Archivist is responsible for the management and development of the E H McCormick Research Library’s archive collection and ensures this collection is discoverable and accessible to all Library users.

The Librarian/Archivist also works closely with the Librarian, Discovery and Access in the delivery of an efficient and effective reference service, both in person and online, by responding to research enquiries and keeping up to date with best practice content delivery methods. This role also contributes to research and promotion of the Library and Archive collections through the exhibition, display and interpretation of the collections for the benefit of the Gallery’s diverse audiences.

As an experienced archivist and librarian, you will have a passion for research and New Zealand art histories, as well as a strong belief in the importance of professional library and archive services. You will have excellent attention to detail and collection care, strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills, and be committed to increasing public access to and knowledge of our library and archive collections.

To apply for the Librarian/Archivist position, you will have:

  • A post-graduate qualification in Information Management, Library and Archives or related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years recent experience working with archives, preferably in an art museum context
  • Excellent research skills, communication skills and stakeholder management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of New Zealand art histories
  • Proficiency in Vernon collection management software an added advantage
  • The Librarian/Archivist will work closely with the Research Library and Archives Manager to develop and enhance the archive collection in order to make it accessible to our users.
