McLeavey Gallery is recruiting a Gallery Manager for a full-time fixed term contract located at 147 Cuba Street, Wellington. The Gallery Manager plays a key role in delivering a dynamic exhibition and events schedule, including off-site projects such as participation in art fairs. It is an exciting and multifaceted role that offers an opportunity to work alongside some of Aotearoa’s leading artists, and be part of art history in the making. The ideal candidate requires a good understanding of both contemporary art and art history and must be personable, passionate, dedicated and demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the demands of working in a complex, sensitive environment. The role combines a high level of outward facing interactions with behind-the-scenes administrative, operational and logistical tasks. The ideal candidate must have excellent attention to detail and computer literacy. Experience with Xero, Mailchimp, Photoshop and website CMS systems is a bonus. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are required. The Gallery Manager must be able to knowledgeably and passionately write and speak about gallery artists and their work, and incite interest and excitement for clients and visitors to the gallery. An ability to work positively and collaboratively with clients, artists, contractors (such as photographers, installers and framers) and the Gallery Director is vital. A genuine interest in people and confidence in relationship building and stakeholder management is important.
At least 2 years’ work experience is required. Previous experience in a client management or in a customer facing role is preferred.
Salary + commission offered. Details to be negotiated based on experience.
