Lydia Cowpertwait has been announced as the new Director and owner of Sanderson Contemporary.
For the past two years Lydia has been working as the Gallery Manager at Sanderson and has been responsible for the day to day running of the gallery, curation of the gallery's exhibition programme and fostering relationships with the gallery’s artists and patrons.
Lydia previously worked for the Whitechapel Gallery in London and ran Hoxton Art Gallery, a contemporary art gallery based in east London that promoted the work of leading emerging artists in the UK. Over eight years Lydia ran an art consultancy practice carrying out the commissioning, sourcing and installing of large-scale art works and art collections for spaces in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Lydia holds a Master's degree in Sociology with distinction from Goldsmiths College, University of London, a Bachelor's degree in History of Art and Sociology from the University of Auckland and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts. Lydia seeks to continue Sanderson's growth as a prominent but accessible commercial gallery in Aotearoa.
This is an exciting change for the gallery and team at Sanderson.
‘It’s a privilege to be working with the gallery’s artists and followers in this capacity and I look forward to helping forge the next chapter. Ngā manaakitanga.’
