Art History to Art Today is the perfect introductory course for those new to the world of art and its history.

Covering a range of topics, students will be introduced to the origins of modern art through the work of early ‘movers and shakers’ in the 19th century both in Aotearoa New Zealand and abroad. A deeper exploration of these local and international contexts continues through examining the work of pivotal 20th-century artists. Students will gain an understanding of the contexts which drove the art of yesteryear and the correlations between what drives the art of our current post-digital age.

Classes are varied with a mix of lecture-based lessons, trips to galleries and auction houses, and visits with guest speakers. Classes are informal and primarily based on discussion, with no formal assessment. Topics may arise from exhibitions, travel and the interests of tutor and participants alike.
