On the final day of twisting, turning, winding: takatāpui + queer objects, curator Richard Orjis, designer Micheal McCabe and takatāpui and community advisor Kaan Hiini will share their reflections on the exhibition and possibilities for the years ahead.
Over coffee and croissants, thoughts will be offered on the power of objects to communicate personal experience and the potential for a queer archive to expand in the future.
Tickets are $10 including coffee & croissants with limited places available. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Rainbow Youth.
Richard Orjis is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, and educator based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. His research investigates queer ecologies through site-orientated, archival and collaborative artworks and exhibition-making.
Michael McCabe is an interdisciplinary designer based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. He has worked with art galleries (Objectspace, Window Gallery, The Dowse), theatre companies (Auckland Theatre Company, Silo Theatre, Actors Program, Massive Theatre Company, PAT ) and public art organisations (Auckland Artweek, Satellites).
Kaan Hiini is a design director at Curative, a creative agency working to change the narrative of complex social issues, through inclusive collective design processes, social marketing, brand development and strategic communication. Hiini is also co-chair on the board of the Auckland Pride Festival, working to celebrate queer creativity and champion queer issues, with a focus on creating and nurturing Takatāpui spaces.
