Join Black Door Gallery for the much-awaited third solo exhibition of Wellington painter Rieko Woodford-Robinson.

This series of work titled Heroes will feature anthropomorphic portraits of native New Zealand birds, executed with exquisite detail and endearing personality.

Rieko Woodford-Robinson's work is influenced by Pop Surrealism and the Old Masters. Aesthetic elements of Japanese pop culture such as kawaii (cute) also appear in her paintings, finely balanced with melancholy and knowing humour. A self-taught artist and illustrator, she was born in Japan and has lived in Wellington since 1999. Her first exhibition was held in 2010, followed by several solo shows and group exhibitions in Wellington and Auckland.

This exhibition can also be viewed online from October 8. To request a catalogue please contact the gallery info@blackdoorgallery.co.nz or 09 368 4554.
