Monica Brewster Evenings is a monthly event series with thinkers, makers, enablers and practitioners from across the creative sector.

Join us for our June Monica Brewster Evening with Cat Ruka, (Ngāpuhi, Waitaha, Ngāi Te Rangi) an acclaimed arts leader based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. She is the outgoing Executive Director of Basement Theatre, was Artistic Director of Tempo Dance Festival and Head of Performing Arts Programme at Manukau Institute of Technology's Faculty of Creative Arts.

Cat is a fierce advocate for the arts and co-founded the arts advocacy group D.A.M.N. during the Covid lockdowns. Her current interests lie in galvanizing artist communities to advocate for arts, culture, creativity and Ngā Toi Māori through practices of creative activism. Cat’s doctoral research investigates decolonial approaches to arts leadership, and in 2021 the University of Auckland awarded her with a ‘40 under 40 Influencer’ award.

Monica Brewster Evenings are produced in partnership with Govett Quilliam - The Lawyers, with further event support from Michael Radich Wine Merchants, Theory Food, and Shining Peak brewing.
