Join artist Ron Te Kawa at the NZ Portrait Gallery to create an up-cycled original textile portrait of yourself, or who you wish to be! This free workshop is open to all ages so bring the tamariki along.

If you can please bring your favourite bright fabrics, old clothes, blankets, linens, and any old textiles to create your artwork.

If you have a sewing machine you would like to use or some needle and thread, bring that also. If not, that is all good too, you will be fabric macheting with glues provided.

The Portrait Gallery will provide scissors some fabrics and materials and refreshments.

This exhibition is presented in conjunction with Threads: Textiles Festival. With more than 15 free exhibitions and a roster of workshops, talks and tours at venues spanning Lower Hutt, Petone, Thorndon and the central city, Threads sheds new night on contemporary textile practices in Aotearoa and beyond. The festival will take place across Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington from 16-20 March 2022, read more here.
