The biennial Toi MAHARA Young Artists Exhibition celebrates emerging young artists from the Kāpiti Coast and Horowhenua rohe, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills in the visual arts in a public gallery.

Toi MAHARA received over 80 amazing submissions, with a final 60 works being selected for the show. These works employed diverse mediums and were created by 44 artists, aged thirteen to twenty five.

The winners of the inaugural exhibition are:

Open Award, $2,000, sponsored by Coastlands: Katie Godwin for ‘Grief‘

Highly Commended Award, $1,000, sponsored by Athfield Architects: Georgia Doyne for ‘Ophelia‘

Toi Māori Award, $500, sponsored by Mills Albert: Ellie-May Wilson for ‘Kōmitimiti by Te Inati Auaha‘

Digital Award, $500, sponsored by SignCraft Kāpiti: Michael Tanirau for ‘Response Code‘

Tertiary Student Artist Award, $500, sponsored by Zebunisso Alimova – Mike Pero Mortgages: Isaac du Toit for ‘The Exchange, after Tupaia, The Flood, The Last Supper‘

Secondary Student Artist Award, $500, sponsored by Green Van Solar & Electrical: Charlie Dale-Low for ‘Passing by‘

People’s Choice Award, $500, sponsored by Friends of Toi MAHARA. Vote for your favourite work when you visit the exhibition. The awardee will be announced at the conclusion of the exhibition.
