Biography:
Kia ora, I'm Angus. I am a takatāpui community worker/social work student and a person who makes art/writes shit in my bedroom and occasionally shows it to my friends and my mum lol. I am also happy to be making sounds with my best mate, which is a new thing I've been too nervous to do in the past.
I feel like the way I think about community, being queer, being Māori, being a survivor of sexual violence and mental health deeply influences everything I do/ make and the way I engage with people and the world. I believe that everything is pretty interwoven.
Relationships and connections are really important to me and I think part of having healthy ones (for me) is being able to deconstruct myself and know what each part is made of, how it works and to try and be aware of how it could change as things grow. This can be really hard and sad most of the time haha, but it's important to me.
My favourite whakataukī that I think could be a foundation of all I want to try and do at the moment is 'Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua' - I walk backwards into the future with my eye fixed on the past.
In regards to the actual tangible shit I make/do I paint, draw, embroider, play dress ups, scream, bash on things and I also play the saw. Oh I also would like to think of myself as a paranormal investigator but right now I'm too pōhara for the flash gadgets, I guess I'll just have to get more intune with my natural taha wairua.
