Following the success of the inaugural curatorial workshop at the 2021 Art Fair, Aotearoa Art Fair, Massey University Te Kunenga Ki Pūrehuroa and Objectspace, are pleased to invite emerging curators/artists to apply to participate in a workshop and networking/learning opportunity at the 2022 Aotearoa Art Fair.

The 2022 workshop will be co-facilitated by Heather Galbraith (curator and Professor of Fine Arts Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts), Zoe Black (Deputy Director, Objectspace), and Balamohan Shingade (Researcher with Centre for Culture-Centred Approach to Research and Evaluation (CARE), Massey University). The workshop has been made possible through support from Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa.

Over two days (Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 March 2022), participants will enjoy a programme of activities, drawing on the communities of practice gathering around the Aotearoa Art Fair, and events and sites around Tāmaki Makaurau.

The workshop will entail one-on-one meetings, contextual and conceptual discussions, looking at projects and exhibitions, local hikoi to projects and events, and will include opportunities to meet artists, curators, other arts and culture professionals and each other, and to debate key issues participants wish to address.

Successful applicants will enjoy the full benefits of a VIP invitation to the 2022 Aotearoa Art Fair (which runs from 2-6 March 2022). This includes unlimited access to the Art Fair, plus invitations to a programme of VIP art events in and around Tāmaki Makaurau during the week of the Fair.

The workshop will be limited to 12 participants. To apply, please provide concise answers to these questions:

Applicants outside Auckland can apply for a stipend to assist with travel and/or accommodation. This will be awarded in cases of fiscal precarity. If you would like to apply for this please note this on your application and explain how the stipend would assist.

Successful applicants will be contacted in February 2022 and a personalised programme will be developed for them.

We will follow Ministry of Health requirements to ensure your safety and the safety of others around you. This workshop will not take place if the Aotearoa Art Fair is not able to take place due to COVID regulations.
