- Applications Close 10/01/21
Applications are now invited to join art historian, writer and curator Christina Barton for a writers workshop.
This seven-day intensive has been conceived to run alongside the 2022 Aotearoa Art Fair (28 Feb –6 March) and selected participants will gain insights into the practice of writing from an experienced author who will introduce you to professionals involved in the writing process including writers, editors, designers, and publishers.
The aim of the workshop is to produce a publication that responds to the Fair that will be circulated to visitors and participants as soon as possible after it closes. You will learn a range of approaches to art writing then find your own ‘take’ on the works, projects and satellite events taking place during the Fair. You will have the opportunity to literally ‘workshop’ the process of writing, from finding your subject, through formulating a response, editing drafts, then bringing your work together with others to produce a coherent finished product. This will be designed and published in hard-copy and online formats.
To Apply:
There are ten places available in the workshop, which is free to attend, but participants will need to cover their own costs for travel and accommodation and most meals. If you plan to apply, please ensure you can commit to the full programme, send your CV with a cover letter explaining why you would like to take part, together with a writing sample (this can be a manuscript or a published text) to stephanie@artfair.co.nz with the subject line: Writers’ Workshop.
The deadline for applications is Monday 10 January 2022. Preference will be given to emerging writers with a strong desire to learn and the capacity to work quickly and collaboratively. For applicants outside Auckland small travel stipends are available. These will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated need. Please specify in your application if you are seeking support to attend.
To comply with COVID regulations, all participants will need to be double vaccinated and to show their My Vaccine Pass. We will follow Ministry of Health requirements to ensure your safety and the safety of others around you. This workshop will not take place if the Aotearoa Art Fair is not able to take place due to COVID regulations.
Successful applicants will be contacted in February 2022 and will be provided with a VIP Invitation which will offer them full entry to the Fair and access to the associated VIP Programme of events.
This workshop has been generously supported by Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington and Creative New Zealand Toi Aotearoa. Special thanks to Aotearoa Art Fair for graciously hosting the workshop.
