North Port Events, organisers of New Zealand’s premier contemporary art event Aotearoa Art Fair, have today announced that the 2022 event will be postponed until Wednesday 16–Sunday 20 November 2022. The new dates come in response to the Red Traffic Light setting currently in place in Aotearoa New Zealand, which limits public gatherings to 100.

The 2021 Art Fair, held last February, generated more than NZ$10 million in art sales, all of which went to the participating galleries and their artists, making the Art Fair a very significant event in ensuring artists get paid for the work they do, and dealer galleries can make a living and continue to support their artists. It is this that has driven the decision to postpone, rather than to cancel.

“A lot of effort goes into staging live events–not just by us as organisers but also our galleries, their artists, our partners and contractors,” say Stephanie Post and Hayley White, co-directors of the event. “To that end, while it is disappointing not to be going ahead in March as planned, we are now looking forward to November and optimistic that by then we will be able to present a Fair showcasing the outstanding art that has already been made - and more”.

The postponement has been made possible by the extension of the Event Transition Support Payment scheme run by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The Art Fair is extremely grateful to the Event Support team, and to all those at Auckland Unlimited, the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, and The Cloud for their assistance over the past few weeks.

The 2022 Fair will welcome the same 40 galleries as planned for March, all showing new work by more than 180 artists, to around 10,000 visitors at The Cloud in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland for five days. Everyone who has already purchased tickets to the March Aotearoa Art Fair will be contacted directly to have their tickets transferred over to the new dates or refunded.

Tickets to the November 2022 Fair are on sale from artfair.co.nz and when you buy yours online you save on the door price.
