The Curatorial Intern in Art is a training position for emerging curators in Aotearoa, supported by funding from Creative New Zealand in conjunction with the Dunedin Public Art Gallery; a Department of the Dunedin City Council. This position will reflect the Gallery’s commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
The successful applicant will be a member of the Gallery’s Public Programmes and Collection team. You will be working in all areas relating to the development and presentation of exhibitions, public programmes and publications, including working with toi Māori and contemporary art and the Dunedin Public Art Gallery collection.

It involves working with artists, writing for exhibitions and publications, developing conservation and art handling knowledge, contributing to exhibition design and layout, interacting with members of the public, and contributing to the development and presentation of visitor programmes
The DPAG has a dynamic and innovative exhibition programme. In 2022, this includes exhibitions of new work from artists across Aotearoa and international projects. The curatorial intern will have an opportunity to curate an exhibition within this programme. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in curatorial practice and critical writing within an art context. Knowledge of tikanga Māori and te reo Māori is an advantage.
