Art Loans Manager
Full-time/Permanent (40 hours)

The Arts House Trust (TAHT) is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Art Loans Manager to lead our external Art Loans Programme and contribute to the dynamic operations of our renowned art collection. The ideal candidate possesses a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude, expertise in contemporary art, and a capacity to thrive within this multifaceted role. This role focuses on managing both incoming and outgoing loans, coordinating long-term loans and facilitating short-term loans within public and corporate environments.

As Art Loans Manager, you will plan and manage all aspects of the TAHT Art Loans Programme, ensuring the safe transport, handling, and installation of artworks while coordinating with partners including government buildings, universities, public/private hospitals, corporates and other external stakeholders. You’ll also support exhibitions, oversee logistics and maintain exceptional records for the collection, insurance, and valuations.

You will work closely with our Curator & Collections Manager handling loan logistics, and ensuring thorough documentation and record-keeping. This permanent position plays a key role in TAHT’s broader mission to preserve and share its exceptional collection.

The Arts House Trust is a charitable trust that supports and promotes contemporary art and artists in Aotearoa, located at the Pah Homestead in Hillsborough. We oversee a collection of over 9,500 artworks – more information via our website.

Key Responsibilities
• Facilitating exhibition loan requests, coordinating approvals, and ensuring timely communication with stakeholders
• Negotiating and reviewing loan agreements, valuations and insurance
• Logistics; arranging the handling, packing, safe transport, and storage of objects, ensuring cultural sensitivity and adherence to best practices
• Draft and plan art loan proposals for each stakeholder/loan location, attending meetings, and updating the team on loan progress and requirements
• Maintaining up-to-date loan documentation, both physical and digital, ensuring accurate records and archiving
• Managing all art collection and loan-related data in Vernon CMS, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and proper linkage of digital records, ensuring accurate and contextual information.
• Building and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including iwi/hapu, and participating in cross-disciplinary teams
• Coordinate artwork movements, condition reporting, and storage management.
• Collaborate on exhibition curation, installation, and deinstallation.

• Strong project management and stakeholder relationship management
• Must be able to legally work in New Zealand; NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
• A current and full New Zealand driver’s licence

Qualifications:
• Relevant museum/public gallery experience or a degree in Arts or Collection Management, Museum Studies, Art History, Fine Arts or relevant fields necessary
• Minimum of 3 -5 years of experience in a comparable role, preferably with expertise in art loans, curating, exhibition installation, collection and stakeholder management
• Proficiency in Vernon Collection Management System, MS Office and Adobe Creative Cloud
• Any retail or sales experience a bonus
