We're looking for someone with a passion for contemporary art who is keen to develop their curatorial skills with a one-year fixed-term position at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū.

The Curatorial Assistant (Intern) will be a part of the curatorial team and gain practical experience working with a supervising curator towards a major exhibition of contemporary art to be held at the gallery in late 2023. In addition to exhibition research, development and delivery, you may also be a part of other curatorial projects, including working with the Christchurch Art Gallery collection. The position will involve working within a team environment and with artists, writing texts for the exhibition and any collateral publishing, developing conservation and art-handling knowledge, learning about exhibition design and public engagement.

The successful candidate will be seeking to build a career as a curator and have an excitement for new possibilities. You will be an excellent communicator, a flexible and inspiring thinker, capable and patient and take pride in attention to detail.


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

-Tertiary qualification in related field or equivalent experience;
-Demonstrated knowledge of local, national and international contemporary art and curatorial practice;
-Awareness of te ao Māori and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi;
-Excellent administrative, planning, organisation, budgeting and time-management skills;
-Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; evidenced thoughtful, receptive and critical thinking; the capacity to communicate clearly and articulately for various audiences.


DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

-Driver's licence
-Te reo Māori skills

-Hours: Full-time, fixed-term for 12 months
-Salary: $47,776 - $58,147
