Te Uru is seeking an Education Manager to join their small and dedicated team.

Te Uru is a leading home for contemporary culture, a regional gallery locally rooted in West Auckland but globally minded. A destination gallery that opened in 2014 as part of the refurbished Lopdell Precinct, Te Uru is West Auckland’s leading contemporary gallery. Their vision is to provide a unique perspective that is both local and international. Their programmes reflect the place in Aotearoa and the wider Moana region while connecting new ideas and different practices with local and global networks. Te Uru recognises Māori as Tangata Whenua and foster the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi internally and externally to enhance and develop our programmes.

As the Education Manager, you will play a vital role in building engagement opportunities for the gallery. You will oversee the stunning purpose-built Learning Centre and the dynamic schedule of education programmes. Te Uru are seeking a driven and visionary manager with a passion for art and education. This is an excellent opportunity to build upon the already established reputation of Te Uru’s Learning Centre.

The Education Manager will develop education workshops for schools and community groups in response to the exhibition programme. They will work closely with the curatorial team and exhibiting artists. The Education Manager will build after-school and holiday programmes and engage external tutors to fully utilise the Learning Centre space and deliver a diverse programme to the community surrounding the gallery. The Education Manager will be responsible for managing the Learning Centre budget and will be required to generate reports for governance and for local board.

Education and Skills

It is beneficial to have:

- a qualification in Art History, Fine Art or Education. - experience working with children or teaching experience. - managerial experience. - knowledge and understanding of artistic practices in Aotearoa.

The Education Manager should:

- recognise and understand Aotearoa’s bi-culturalism and have an awareness of the significance of the Treaty of Waitangi to this and any role at the gallery. - have a high standard of interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written. - ideally have experience using Microsoft office suite and Adobe creative suite. - be sensitive to the diverse cultural needs and practices of artists, visitors, and staff of the gallery.
