Scott Lawrie Gallery is delighted to announce the representation of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland-based artist Andrew Rankin.
‘I’ve been obsessed by Andrew’s work for a long time now’, explains gallery Director Scott Lawrie, ‘particularly his dedication to photography, and his craftsmanship, which he impeccably combines as portals to new visual experiences. They are subtle, and powerful works – nuanced and deeply considered – and always exquisite in their making.’
Andrew’s thesis focused principally on photography; ideas of time and place, which are deeply embedded into his work. This is typified by the truly magnificent masterwork, ‘The time travelling object’. It’s an unforgettable visual experience in itself, playful yet profound, and a deeply significant tribute to a much admired piece of original craftsmanship by Anton Seuffert (born 1815, Bohemia - died 1887, Auckland, New Zealand). You can still see at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Andrew will showcase work in the gallery soon, and have a major solo show with the gallery in mid 2023. He will show at the Aotearoa Art Fair later this year.
