Karangahape Road, Newton Road, upper Symons Street, Putiki Street, Rose Road and Ponsonby Road

Many of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's galleries are found around Karangahape Road, Grey Lynn and Ponsonby, with some more recently moving to Eden Terrace. Distances between the galleries are walkable if you are not in too much of a hurry.

Artspace Aotearoa,
Ground Floor, 296 Karangahape Road

Artspace Aotearoa is a non-profit art institution located on Auckland's Karangahape Rd, dedicated to commissioning and presenting new ideas in contemporary art. Artspace Aotearoa works within a city, nation and world, knitting together stories that interpret, react, and respond to these permeable borders and the ever-changing societies that exist within them. Founded in 1987, Artspace Aotearoa has built an approach to our programme and organisation that seeks to care, support, and inspire, making exhibitions that both promote NZ art and actively engage with voices from elsewhere.

Tautai,
Level 1, 300 Karangahape Road

Located in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa New Zealand, Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust is a charitable trust dedicated to championing Pacific arts and artists. Over almost forty years, Tautai has grown to become Aotearoa’s premiere Pacific arts organisation with a multidisciplinary focus. The Trust brings artists and the wider Tautai aiga together through a range of events and activities locally and globally. Our purpose is to grow a rich ecology of Pacific creative arts practice and provide leadership, support and unique opportunities for the Tagata Moana arts community.

Michael Lett,
312 Karangahape Road, (gallery entrance on East Street)

Michael Lett is a contemporary art gallery in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. The gallery represents international and locally based artists at the forefront of contemporary practice, and presents a programme of exhibitions focused on innovative practices from the present day and preceding decades. In addition, the gallery regularly produces art publications, ranging from artist books to collected writings.

Bergman Gallery,
Suite 3, 582 Karangahape Road (gallery entrance via 2 Newton Road)

Bergman Gallery is a commercial dealer gallery established in 2016 in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, and is dedicated to the exhibition of Modern Pacific Art. Directed by Ben Bergman, Bergman Gallery represents artists from the broader Pacific region. Alongside a regular domestic schedule of exhibition, the gallery is constantly exploring off-shore showcases and offers a limited artist in residence program.

Starkwhite Auckland,

Starkwhite is a contemporary art gallery based in Auckland and Queenstown, New Zealand, specialising in the presentation of interdisciplinary visual art exhibitions with an international focus. Starkwhite is committed to a strong art fair programme engaging with the best of contemporary practice.

In 2022, Starkwhite partnered with 1301PE (Los Angeles) to open 1301SW in Melbourne, Australia. www.1301SW.com.

Kim Meredith Gallery,
247 Symonds Street, Eden Terrace

Kim Meredith Gallery is housed in what was the front room of Kim Meredith’s family home on upper Symonds Street. Meaning the new space is tagata moana owned and led, with former Tautai Director, Courtney Sina Meredith, as Co-Director.

Committed to platforming the ‘Pasifika zeitgeist’ the gallery in its debut year is exhibiting a series of multi-media shows featuring artists such as Janet Lilo, Courtney Sina Meredith and DAM.

Fox Jensen McCrory,
10 Putiki Street, Grey Lynn

Andrew Jensen opened the gallery in New Zealand in 1988 and over the course of more than thirty years it has set itself aside in terms of its seamless presentation of international work alongside the most considered practices from the region. In early 2011 the gallery expanded to Australia opening a second gallery in Sydney and now a third much larger site has opened in Alexandria Sydney in recognition of the vigour and intent of the galleries’ artists.

Fox Jensen, Sydney and Fox Jensen McCrory, Auckland are run in close partnership with its artists by Andrew Jensen, Emma Fox and Sarah McCrory. It participates annually in Art Basel Hong Kong, Auckland Art Fair and Sydney Contemporary whilst remaining increasingly committed to its gallery programs.

Two Rooms,
16 Putiki Street, Grey Lynn

Two Rooms, is a contemporary art gallery located in a converted warehouse in Central Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Opened in August 2006, Two Rooms presents a programme of exhibitions and projects by leading International and New Zealand contemporary artists. The building houses two exhibition spaces running a dual programme of two exhibitions per month.

The exhibition programme is developed inhouse with the addition of exhibition commissions from invited local and international curators.

{Suite} Auckland,
189 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby

{Suite} was established in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2007 by Director and owner David Alsop. {Suite} has two gallery spaces; the first is a heritage building on Wellington’s Cuba Street that houses a permanent display for photographer Ans Westra, dedicated to celebrating the artist’s lifetime of work and images. Our second location, which opened in June 2020, is a character building in the heart of Auckland’s Ponsonby Road.

{Suite} aims to support both local and international contemporary art and artists by mounting diverse and unique exhibitions across a range of media by emerging and established artists.
