Auckland’s city centre waterfront area is a hive of activity, both day and night. It has been a key area for development over the last decade and is now the location of a busy transport hub and accommodation, retail, dining and entertainment venues.

Auckland Domain, Parnell
Parnell
Today the Auckland Domain is home to the Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, the Wintergardens (a complex of glasshouses and courtyards) and sports and recreational reserves. It has many walking paths providing an escape from the nearby urban centre.

Wellesley Street and Albert Street
City Centre
Te Wharau a Tako literally means the shelter of Tako. It is the name of the village that once stood on the Swanson Street ridge, between Queen Street and Hobson Street. There was a well-formed access way named Te Tarapounamu that led down to the Te Wai Horotiu Stream.

Karangahape Road
K' Rd & Ponsonby
Karangahape Road, commonly known as K Road, hosts an array of restaurants, bars, clubs, galleries, retail stores and workspaces for small and start-up creative businesses. Until the mid-20th century Karangahape Road was the only street in central Auckland with a Māori name.
